Paddle Out With Me
Do you feel that tingling in your jowls? A hurricane is approaching. Spinning towards us is the imminent thrill of powerful swell. It gets us out of bed at 5 am, feeling like puking from lack of sleep, to prepare, don wetsuits and head into the drink before sunrise.
The feeling borders on irrational. While many gather supplies to weather out the storm indoors, surfers prepare to put themselves in the path of the Hurricane’s force. Yet it’s far from crazy. In fact, it's calculated madness; Your equipment is ready. Leashes have been checked, and you have the right board for the conditions and the waves you intend to surf. When it all comes together, you immerse yourself and find calm in the chaos.

The anticipation of the Hurricane is enough to drive the East Coast surfer into a foaming frenzy. With the summer season providing smooth, dreamy longboard waves, it’s easy to forget the power that the ocean can deliver. The first swell catches us off guard and is the reminder we need. Say goodbye to an easy paddle out, and recall your duck dive techniques that have been locked away since April.
How’s your cardio? Do your knees quiver when you hear that thundering lip from the parking lot? Jowls still tingling? When was the last time you surfed? How’s that pit in your stomach? Were the rocks always this slippery? Fuck barnacles.

Whatever feelings arise and pass, you’re in it now. You stare straight into the eye of a spinning beast as it reels down the point. You dodge chundering whitewash walls to get into position and wait for your opportunity. You turn and go when it arises, paddling into oblivion, hoping for the best. When you are up and locked into the wave, flow takes over, connecting you and your board with the surging ocean. Joy.
What leads up to that moment might be a mystery to the onlooker, but in reality, it is the culmination of training, preparation and dedication to the practice of surfing. This is where Hurricane Surf Co finds its foundations. We are here to help you feel ready to make that leap, to send it in the waves that challenge and inspire you.
